olivia parker
Olivia Parker began her career as a painter, she first became involved in photography in 1970. The majority of her work self-taught she makes constructions to photograph and experiments with the varieties possibilities of light. Her work is represented in major private, corporate, and museum collections, including the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the International Museum of Photography at George Eastman House in Rochester, New York. She has lectured and conducted workshops extensively both in this country and abroad. In 1996 she received a Wellesley College Alumnae Achievement Award.
The majority of Parker's work is black and white and as you can see collections of various objects. Her work interests me as it is unique. A lot of her work is based on shells. As you can see she has images of different kinds of shells taken from different angles and varied ways.
Her work interests me as it is different and shes sees objects in a different view as others do.

todd mclellan
Todd McLellan is a photographer known for taking apart/dismantling common items and appliances down to their bare parts in order to show all detail and the variety of parts that go into making that specific product. He then lays the detailed parts out in very neat placing's and photographs them from a birds eye view in order to see a full overview of what has gone into that particular item. He then takes the objects and creates an image that almost looks as if the object is exploding.
His work intrigues as its presented more modern and the view of it is slightly futuristic.

To start off I was looking for collections that I have, the main thing that jumped to mind was badges as in total I have over 30 and still going. Whilst taking the images with the majority of them, I tried to stick to the style of Olivia Parker as her images are black and white I shot most of mine black and white. Also hers are neatly organised so I set mine out neatly.
Although this image is different to the artists I have researched, I decided to do my own style of collections. I collect traditional ales so I lined them up neatly, adjusted the brightness and changed the depth of field. After I was content with the image I changed it to Black and White using photoshop.

These images are a few of my images, a minority of them are my own style of collections shot from various angles but majority of them are in the style of Olivia Parker. I have also converted a few of them to black and white using photoshop to suit the style of her work more as you can see. Parker uses various different collections but the one that caught my eye the most was her interest in shells. Using different kinds of shells such as limpet shells, snail shells and ceriths I arranged them into different positions and took images, some close ups and some birds eye view.
Best
This image has a small depth of field as the background is out of focus and the first 2 bottles are in focus. I took the image on a slightly tilted angle this was to get all bottles in the picture. I like how the light has reflected off the bottles and displayed their colours on the window sill. I also like how the angle that i took it from shows the bottles through the bottle in front of it.
worst
Although the foregound of the image looks good as you can see the detail on the bottle of the Buddha, the image is overexposed, because of this majority of the image is covered by the light and blocks you from seeing the image. Also the whole image is slightly out of focus where as I wanted the first bottle in focus and the rest out of focus.
Using an app on my phone, I altered the images to black and white in the style of Olivia Parker however I kept specific sections in colour to make it my own. You can see the original pictures in my shoot above. I outlined the bottle that I wanted to remain in colour,as you can see at some points I went over the line, then I filled it in which left the remainder of the image in black and white.
annette messager
Annette Messager is a French painter, photographer and sculptor. She studied at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. Her first one-woman exhibition was at the Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus in Munich. Within the 1970s her work started to interpret everyday life, involving objects like toys and needlework. She usually used a range of similar found objects, as well as creating performance pieces. In her work she questioned accepted perceptions of women. Annette stood out as her work was in a complete different category of style compared to everyone else. As well as producing all of her amazing work and her exhibitions she also went onto produce several artist's books.
For my final piece I was inspired by Annette Messager as to me her work is amazing. Its unique and different. She takes images of the human body and presents them in a beautiful installation, not only does she do these types of installations she also does installations involving words for instance the image above says 'chance' although it looks simple it still stands out. My idea was to have a collection of eyes, all different colours and different eye make up etc. Some black and white, some colour, some both but all together in a college in the shape of a big eye.
Final piece
After thinking about my final piece I decided to try a similar idea, only roughly to make sure that it could work. I had to try different things on photoshop as I wasn't sure what my intentions were. I decided to use my bottle shoot and make a bottle made out of bottles because for my exam I'm making an eye made out of eyes.
evaluation
At first as above I planned to do an installation but then changed my mind to work on photoshop instead as I thought the outcome would be better. The process is shown below. I had to take as many images as possible in total I used 124 images of eyes. At first I had to figure out which images would fit best. I went on the image and in the bottom right corner where it says 'fx' one of the options is colour overlay this allows you to place a shadow of colour over your image,I used the eyedropper tool to get the right shade of colour to match the part of the image I wanted to place the image in. I adjusted the opacity so that the image is visible. I did this for all images and used the rub out tool and the blur tool to fit the edges and curves on the image.
My initial thought was for the centre of the eye to be bright and colourful made up of various different colours but as the exam came closer I decided to make it more realistic, I set my expectations too high as when I originally thought it I thought it would look more realistic where as the outcome looks slightly like a cartoon. Also I should of made all images the same size instead of different sizes because it would of made the image neater and more organised where as as you look to the left it looks slightly sloppy. I should of added a set of bottom eyelashes also as this is one of the reasons it looks cartoon.
